As the fall comes covering the forest, the bears in AMP Libearty Snactuary need more than a shelter: lots of food. At this time of the year, their bodies are getting ready for the winter – they deposit fat, building reserves for the long and cold winter days that are about to come.
Why is the fall food so important?
The autumn is the moment when the bears must consume as many calories as possible to form their fat layer that will keep them warm and provide energy over the winter.
The poor or insufficient alimentation can lead to illness in the cold season: low fat, decreased immunity, high risk of disease.
How much does it cost to sustain the Bear’s Pantry?
The food for a single bear in an autumn day means around €15-20 (according to the prices for the local foods).
Feeding the 130 furry friends for just one autumn day costs over €2,000.
Their daily food needs
Our Sanctuary, with around 130 bears, needs daily:
