Romania’s only sanctuary dedicated to dogs.
The AMP Victory Sanctuary opened in October 2025 in the village of Lunca Câlnicului, Prejmer commune, north of Brașov. It is a modern facility purpose-built to provide genuinely high welfare standards for rescued dogs and cats.
The sanctuary can accommodate more than 600 dogs and cats, making it one of Romania’s most important projects dedicated to stray animals.
The facilities were designed for the animals’ comfort and recovery, especially those with medical conditions, elderly animals, and those affected by trauma:
- kennels with indoor and outdoor areas;
- designated exercise areas;
- heated indoor spaces during the colder months;
- a veterinary clinic and a modern treatment area;
- facilities for recovery and post-operative care.
Everything was designed to provide rescued animals with conditions as close as possible to those of a real home.
The AMP Victory Sanctuary
More than a shelter
AMP Victory is about more than rescue. It means daily care, recovery, patience, and long-term responsibility.
Most animals arrive here after difficult experiences: abandonment, accidents, neglect, or years spent living on the streets. Many require complex treatment and time to learn to trust again.
Each year, the sanctuary’s work includes:
400+ animals sheltered and cared for
1,000+ spay and neuter procedures
Thousands of veterinary procedures
and treatments
700 adoptions in Romania and other European countries
Shelter, food, and medical treatment are funded entirely through donations and
the support of people who choose to get involved.
A fight against cruelty
Between 2000 and 2011, more than 35,000 dogs were euthanized at Brașov’s public shelter. Faced with this reality, AMP chose to promote genuine alternatives: rescue, spaying and neutering, adoption, education, and humane conditions for stray animals.
The Association was the first organization in Romania to establish a dedicated veterinary emergency number for rescuing stray animals and works with Romania’s 112 emergency service on animal rescue operations in Brașov.
Partnership with the Stupini Public Shelter
In 2011, AMP began working with the Brașov Municipality to jointly manage the Stupini Public Dog Shelter. At the time, conditions were appalling, and euthanasia was common practice. At this shelter, AMP took action to:
- put an end to unnecessary euthanasia;
- improve sheltering conditions, care, and nutrition;
- promote responsible adoption;
- reduce abandonment and the number of stray animals.
In 2013, more than 360 dogs were relocated from the public shelter to AMP Victory.
Today, AMP continues to support the municipal shelter, where more than 400 dogs receive food, medical treatment, and care provided by eight staff members funded by the Association, along with our volunteers.
A community built on empathy
AMP Victory exists thanks to people who choose not to remain indifferent. Volunteers, donors, veterinarians, partners, and supporters from around the world contribute every day to keeping this mission alive.
Among the ambassadors of the Millions of Friends Association is British actor Peter Egan, known for his longstanding commitment to animal welfare and his support for AMP’s projects.
AMP Victory is the second major shelter for domestic animals built by the Millions of Friends Association. It continues a mission that began nearly three decades ago: to offer abandoned animals not merely survival, but a life of dignity.
