The Millions of Friends Association, with the support of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, offers free spay and neuter procedures for owned dogs and cats whose owners choose to help prevent animal abandonment and suffering.
The procedures are performed safely by experienced veterinarians, and all costs are covered: spaying or neutering, microchipping dogs, and registering them in the Registry of Owned Dogs. (RECS).
All you need to do is make an appointment.
Why is it so important? Because most stray animals are the offspring of owned pets. A single female can have two litters a year, and within just a few years, a handful of animals can produce thousands of offspring.
A single spay or neuter procedure can prevent hundreds of animals from being condemned to abandonment.

Spaying and neutering do more than prevent abandonment. They also improve your pet’s health and safety. The procedure reduces the risk of mammary and ovarian cancer and uterine infections in females, while protecting males against testicular cancer and prostate disease. Spayed and neutered animals are often calmer and less aggressive and no longer experience the stress and behavioral issues associated with mating periods.
At the same time, spaying and neutering mixed-breed dogs and crossbreeds is required by law. Under Law No. 258/2013, failure to comply may result in fines ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 lei.
