More than 130 bears have been given a new life at the AMP Libearty Sanctuary! Most were rescued from appalling conditions in captivity—filthy cages, circuses where trainers’ whips abused them and pushed their bodies to the limit, or cramped, dark enclosures with cold, damp concrete floors. Some were left to starve, while others were force-fed beer and junk food for tourists’ amusement.
The sanctuary also provides a safe home for orphaned cubs that would have had no chance of surviving alone in the wild.
Every day at the Sanctuary costs more than €2,000. The 130 bears in our care consume over two tonnes of food each day. Food, veterinary treatment, vitamins, and supplements—which help the cubs grow strong and ease the physical suffering of elderly bears—are essential supplies we need continuously, day after day, whatever the circumstances.
