For 20 years, Ina had only half a pool, half a shelter and half the space to roam. In every sense, she lived only half a life at Piatra-Neamț Zoo.
She shared a single enclosure with her sister, Anca. It had just one pool, one den and one area for “exercise”—but there were two bears. The only solution the zoo management could find was borrowed from chess: the two sisters took turns using the facilities, swapping places every week.
After years of formal complaints, the Millions of Friends Association finally persuaded the authorities to put an end to this injustice.
With the support of the National Environmental Guard, the local authorities agreed to relinquish Ina, and in October 2014, AMP was finally able to bring her to the sanctuary. Today, she has trees, a pool and a den all to herself.
