After months of field and workshop work, the 9 hectares large 3rd enclosure from the Bear Sanctuary in Zărnești has arrived to the final finishing works and details, so that it can receive other bears rescued from captivity.
The works at the new enclosure have begun in the spring of 2012, and for it’s building there were used 245 posts, which preliminary have been prepared for 2 months in a workshop in the Autumn of last year. 245 galvanized steel mesh of 5,5 m long and 5 mm thick each have been used, mesh specially ordered from abroad.
To strengthen the road from inside and outside the enclosure they have used 50 gabions, the length of the inside road reaching a distance of 1400 meters.
In this enclosure the bears will benefit of a natural pool and a concrete pool. For the natural one, the water is captured directly from the springs and for the concrete one a pumping system has been created that pumps the water from the lakes into the pool.
Since 2005 when the first enclosure has been built, we all have learned something. We have discovered that all the dens we have built for the bears have been “restored” by the bears and we understood that we, the people don’t know the tastes and whims of these bears, therefore we have decided that at the 3rd enclosure we will provide for the new comers raw material (tree branches obtained from trimming) so that each of them can build without any costs or rates …. “The First Home” as they like it the best.
