Just about a month ago, the AMP team had a new rescue mission, but this time it was an unusual one. Two donkeys wandered for days in a field between Codlea and Vulcan near Brasov. Probably abandoned by a shepherd leading his flock to winter pastures, the two eared ones, male and female, ate whatever they could find among the strips of snow covering the ground and hydrated themselves with water from melted snow. The string that their former owner had tied them with still hung at their necks and feet; they were exhausted and in precarious health. This is how they were discovered by a local man who felt sorry for the poor animals. He notified the Environmental Protection Agency, who requested our help.
Proverbial stubbornness
An AMP team set out on the new rescue mission. But once they arrived on the scene, they had to face the donkeys’ proverbial stubbornness. And these two were determined to prove that it isn’t just a myth. The carrots and apples they were offered had no effect on the starved donkeys, who for almost four hours stubbornly refused to enter the van that would take them to their new home. Reinforcements were needed, so other three AMP employees came to help. After several hours and the efforts of five people, the two eared ones stepped into the van. Now they finally live a normal life at the bear sanctuary in Zărnești, along with two other donkies in residence. A barn and a 200 square-meter enclosure were built specially for them.
