For a decade, Jonny – also known as Barbosu, defended his owner’s house in a village near Harghita. The imposing dog patiently endured the rural life, with all its restrictions: little food, frosty winters and hot summer days. He went through it all, but lately the chain became something that he could not endure. The shaggy dog used to often show his displeasure whenever he was tied up. Last time when he protested, one of the owners had to go to the hospital because of the dog’s bite, and so the dog’s days were numbered. “We were notified by the neighbors of the owner who asked for our help. Those who should have been Jonny’s protectors, now called the hunter to shoot him down. The dog shows his aggressive nature especially around men, but he clearly becomes annoyed whenever his owners want to chain him up”, said Ciprian David, AMP veterinary assistant. So AMP rescued the dog and he was taken to the Victory shelter.
Even today, the owners find it hard to understand the reason why their dog attacks them, as in villages, keeping a dog in chains is sadly too common. Unfortunately for animals, freedom is more precious than a bowl of food.
