Unfortunately, we have no reason to celebrate Brown Bear Day as long as it is transformed into an enemy, and real solutions are ignored in favor of short-term interests.
“Romania remains a country of paradoxes!
On February 2, we celebrate Brown Bear Day while it is demonized and considered public enemy no. 1!
What should we celebrate? The killed bears, the orphaned cubs, or the rising odds that condemn bears to death?
A centuries-old Romanian tradition speaks of our coexistence with the bear and, currently, when technical possibilities would offer viable long-term solutions to protect it and, therefore, avoid the conflict between humans and bears, there is unfortunately an interest in selling bear skins from the forests of Romania”, says Cristina Lapis, president of the Million Friends Association.
At the AMP Libearty sanctuary, we take care of bears who are living witnesses to this paradox: animals that have suffered due to exploitation, fear, wrong decisions and lack of human responsibility.
The brown bear is not a problem to be eliminated, but a species to be protected!
Today, on Brown Bear Day, we ask for more than festive declarations.
We ask for respect for life, we ask for coexistence, we ask for decisions that protect!
The bear is not the enemy!Indifference and financial interests, on the other hand, are invisible enemies!
