Record number of adoptions at the public dog shelter

The public dog shelter of Brasov municipality broke the record with 52 dogs put up for adoption in August. The co-administrator of the shelter, “Millions of Friends” Association, focused on popularizing the adoptions among local people, and the results were not slow to appear. „Most adopters are from Brasov and surroundings – Tarlugeni, Sacele, Cristian, Stupini, Ghimbav, Dumbrăvita, Sanpetru. They are generally educated people with average income, but there were also a few exceptions”, said Brandusa Popa, AMP co-manager. Among noteworthy adoptions are dogs that spent more than a year in the shelter, and the staff had almost given up the idea that they will ever leave. „A farmer adopted a very old dog to watch the winter stables – we used to call the old dog Tutankhamon. Then David and Haiduc left too – dogs that were in the shelter for over a year. They are all sociable, and were all trained to walk with a leash, “says Popa.
Beside the local adoptions, AMP takes each month almost 30 dogs and ensures that they are transported to UK and Germany, with the help of our loyal partners – Bund gegen Missbrauch der Tierre e.V. and Love Underdogs.

Happy families
The public shelter dogs are a good option for families looking for companions: they are sterilized, have health cards, are sociable and know how to walk on a leash. The adoption procedure is strict and requires details of the owners in relation to animals already owned and conditions of holding them. „Generally I keep in touch with all those who have adopted dogs from us. We receive pictures and feedback from the families. They all live a better life”, highlights Popa. The adopters are probably happier than their new friends. „ We are very happy with him and we thank you again!”, said Gabriela, Merlin’s owner. „I adopted these guys from the shelter, a month ago. They just adapted to their new home. They are cheerful, loyal and extremely friendly. I can’t believe that they waited a year in the shelter”, said Vicențiu, a citizen of Brasov who has adopted two dogs: Bobby and Corrie.
There are currently 300 dogs in the shelter of Stupini. If you want to adopt a dog, the shelter’s program is between 10.00 AM -04.00 PM from Monday to Friday and between 10:00 AM and 02:00 PM on Saturday.
