Thank you for being with us in 2014

Thank you for being with us in 2014. Together, we managed to do a lot of good things for animals. With the year coming to an end, we’d like to share some highlights:
– Saving bears and expanding our reach: The Libearty sanctuary became the home and playground of five more brown bears in 2014 following successful missions to rescue them from deplorable conditions. The number of rescued bears reached 80 after we said goodbye to Prince Charles, one of the oldest bears in Europe. We expanded our facilities, building the first maternal enclosure and creating a summer camp for children. For the project „”Saving the captive bears in Romania,” 2014 was a year of celebrating animal welfare activity and focusing on a new direction: education. Over 10000 visitors had the chance this year to personally meet – among other bears – Max, Mura,Cristi, and Lidia. The sanctuary was awarded a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. The experience of visiting the sanctuary has helped 4,000 students to change the way they see animals, forever.
– Collaborating to help dogs: Brasov became a leader for all of Romania in how it manages stray dogs. The collaboration between “Millions of Friends” and the City Hall of Brasov resulted in improved conditions for stray dogs picked up on the streets. The shelter that once had plastic bags for windows and rain coming through the roof now has a walking space and a nursery for puppies! With a donation of over three tons of dry food, AMP prevented hundreds of dogs living in the public shelter from being euthanized. Thanks to the joint efforts of the two shelters, the number of stray dogs on the streets of Brasov remains below 400. Over 500 dogs were rescued from the streets and were sterilized and dewormed. For the first time in a city in Romania, over 450 dogs were adopted by Romanian citizens. This proves that we can solve this problem only by getting involved! Another 615 dogs and 30 cats were adopted by families in the UK, Germany, and France. Thanks to AMP’s partners in these countries, the adoptees are now sending us greetings in beautiful pictures taken by their new owners! In all, the lives of over 1,000 dogs got better in 2014!
– Protecting wild animals: AMP rescuers cared for five bear cubs and a number of storks that we later handed over to specialized centers. We also rescued hedgehogs, bats, owls, and other animals..
– Educating and taking action: AMP organized four large-scale actions in 2014. For the first time, World Animal Day was celebrated in Brașov with leading actions. The AMP education team held lessons in 14 schools, and over 400 students attended the presentations on animal welfare. During Volunteer Month, about 40 students became volunteers at the public shelter in Stupini. Finally, we started a virtual adoption program for shelter dogs.
With your support, 2015 will be a better year with more good deeds. You can help us by virtually adopting a bear or a dog, redirecting 2% of your taxes to AMP or 20% of your corporation’s income tax, volunteering, or donating medical supplies, blankets, cardboard, wood, or food to AMP.

We wish you many accomplishments and happy holidays! Join us again in 2015!
