A parrot lost in the forest is given back to its owners

The one-year-old bird, Miako, was taken out for a “walk” without a cage by his owner’s father. The man couldn’t imagine that his recklessness would ruin his holidays. After only a few minutes, the Ara breed parrot, worth more than 1,400 euros, flew to the top of a tree about 20 meters high and too slender for anyone to climb. After a few hours of futile attempts to recover the bird, the man called AMP. Oana and Ciprian David spent their Easter day and the next two days trying to catch the escaped parrot. “When we saw that there was no chance of us reaching the bird, we called the alpinist, our collaborator at the bear sanctuary. Although it was Easter, he came to help us. When he approached the bird, Miako flew away and he couldn’t be found until the next day,” says Oana David, the manager of the Victory dog shelter.

From the pine to the walnut
On Monday morning, Miako was seen in a walnut tree, but then he flew away again into a seven-meter-high pine. The AMP team managed to obtain a ladder from firefighters in Brasov so they could climb after him. The game we later called “Here’s the parrot, there’s no parrot” started, and the bird hung on, spending one more night in the freedom of the highest trees in the area. Then, when he was almost caught, he flew into another tree, this time almost 30 meters high. “We asked the alpinists for help again, the same ones who’d already made a few unsuccessful attempts to catch the bird. Only on Tuesday, after all our efforts, Miako was taken down from the trees, lured with food. He was probably too hungry,” says Oana. Thus, the adventure of the parrot ended well, after three emotional days for lots of people.
