Mishu is the first dog headed to the USA from the Victory shelter. This premiere was made possible by a volunteer, Alexandra Simis, who hopelessly fell in love with Mishu, a puppy she met during the days she volunteered at the shelter.
After a few weeks of volunteering at the Libearty bear sanctuary, Alexandra decided to give a helping hand, together with other volunteers, at the AMP shelter, too. “When we first got there the noise was crazy. Six-hundred dogs all barking at once is not a sound any of us were used to,” recalls Alexandra of the first contact she had with the dog shelter. After a few hours of work, the young volunteers were given an important task: to take out for a walk in the walking yard a few puppies, who’d just been found abandoned on the streets. “We played with them for about 15 minutes, and like the crazy dog lover that I am… I fell absolutely in love with one of them. I got home that night and asked my mom what she thought about me adopting him,” remembers Alexandra.
How to cross the ocean with a dog
Thus began the great adventure. Before the dog could leave the country, he had to be examined and mircrochipped, plus the travel passport had to be completed, customs problems solved, travel arrangements made, and an airline found that would accept the puppy. Everyone got involved. A significant helping hand was given by Răzvan Cicorschi, leader of “Oyster Worldwide Romania”. So, after a month and a half of everyone working up a sweat to resolve all the issues, on 16 December, Mishu left for a new life. Now he’s enjoying the warmth of a real home in Maine, USA. “I miss my Romania buddies! But I am sitting here writing this with my adorable puppy, Mishu, curled up at my feet. He is my own little piece of Romania! Can’t wait to go back someday!!!,” concludes Alexandra in a letter posted on the Oyster Worldwide website.
