A young papa-bear

Children can be interested in a lot more than fancy tablets or Angry Birds. A good education can bring out the loving, caring, responsible side of your child. Case in point, we give you Stefan-Alexandru Anghelache—Alex for short. The twelve-year-old boy lives and studies in Ploiesti, and on August 30th he celebrated his name day at Libearty. Of course, Alex loved the bears and took lots of pictures of them. But the biggest surprise at the sanctuary came from his mother, Raluca. She gave him an adoption certificate for Ionica, his favorite bear. Alex didn’t know she’d been cooking this up for a long time—more than a month—and that our staff was her accomplice.

“I had adopted Max a few years ago myself, and I thought it was time for my little bear to become a papa bear,” says Raluca. „His ultimate goal is to become a vet, and I totally support him. We’re preparing him for his future career, so we’ve created a habitat for animals in a corner of the yard. Now we help him take care of dogs, cats, pigeons, fishes. We don’t have hamsters and snakes yet, but you never know,” says Raluca, who’s an example for mothers all around the world. We’re hoping she didn’t pay for the adoption from Alex’s college savings, but even so, no sixty-euro-a-year sacrifice is too big when it comes to caring for animals.

After he received proof of having a bear under his supervision, Alex was taken to see Ionica, who waited for him at the fence. The meeting was truly emotional, with lots of pics posted afterward on Alex’s Facebook wall. As we said, Alex is just twelve years old, but when he’s 20, he’ll be paying Ionica’s allowance from his first paycheck.
