Over 300 runners and 200 supporters attended the “Brasov Heroes 2014” amazing race held in Brasov on 19 September. The AMP team participated with over 10 competitors, all animal lovers. They ran for a good cause – “equipping” over 1.000 dogs and cats with engraved medallions. “Identification helps the lost animals to easily get back to their owners and it’s more than that. It’s a sign of responsibility of the citizens and a first step to decrease the number of stray dogs” said Cristina Lapis, AMP president. Interested people received information at the AMP tent about the importance of identifying and microchipping animals, and also about the facilities that the association provides when it comes to sterilizing dogs and cats.
The race was followed by surprises: two of the competitors who registered for the animal cause, won the top ranks. “Animals impress me more than humans. The main reason I attended this competition, is the presence of AMP. I like animals very much and I have two cats at home. One of them was aquired via the internet after being found in the park” says Larisa Cobianu (35 years old), second place winner in the Short Race for Women. Joseph I. Sarosi is a professional athlete and took the first place in the Men’s race. “I think more people should fight for animals,” says Joseph.
The race resulted in 400 euros, raised by AMP. For the animal identification campaign 2.500 euros are needed.
