In the autumn of 2011, the rangers on the Teleajen Valley contacted the Millions of Friends Association from Brasov. They have found a bear cub in the forest, probably after her mother was killed during a hunting session. The cub was brought to the canton, where she took long walks in the yard during the day, and during the night she went to sleep into an enclosure specially built for her by the rangers. She was very playful l and she enjoyed the company of people, not knowing that the man is in fact the one who took her mother away from her. She was hardly 6 months old when the AMP team rescued her. Mia, because this is how she was baptized, was taken in the arms to the Sanctuary.
She spent more than one year in the quarantine area of the Sanctuary, because she was too small and young to be released with the other bears. She waited impatiently on the releasing day. Because she missed her mommy, she used to suck her paws like a baby and would spin like a motorcycle engine. Right before this winter, the AMP staff moved Mia into the Training Area, the enclosure specially arranged for bears in order to adjust to the life in the Sanctuary – with the trees, the pools, the grass and food. Until her “Traineeships” will be over, Mia will be accompanied by Monica. She understood that the freedom from the large enclosure is not far away, so she already started training. She loves the most sitting in the trees, right in the top of them. From here she can feel the breeze better. The breeze of freedom…
