A female bear and her two cubs went in the sanctuary, early on Saturday morning. The three bears used to beg for food from the tourists in the Saint Ana lake area. As there was the intention to shoot the cubs and relocate their mother in another part of the country, AMP came to save the entire family. Thus, on Saturday morning, at 3.00 AM the mother and her two cubs went into the Libearty sanctuary and were moved in the quarantine area. They were still under the effect of the tranquilizer, but now they all feel good and soon will be moved in a special enclosure, dedicated to the mothers with cubs.
After four days spent in the quarantine room, the family was moved in the training area. We were worried, as we talk about a female bear that came from the wild. But the mother and her two five months old boys stopped right in front of the goodies prepared by our care takers: fruits and bread with a lot of honey. Then, the mom led her cubs to the pool, where she showed them what a real bath was like. They did not miss climbing either and after they became too tired, they laid in the shadow for a silent sleep in the shadow.
Impressed by the story of the mother and the two cubs, Peter Egan, who was in the sanctuary to inaugurate the the educational farm, decided to name the two cubs as Enoch and Arden, just like the character in the poem of Alfred Lord Tennyson. Their mother is now called Myra, after the actor’s wife.
After four days in the quarantine area, the family went in the training area. We were very emotional as the female bear came from the wild.
