Since the beginning of the project, Pierre Brice has supported the bears from the Libearty sanctuary, a project that changed the mentality of many people regarding the protection and welfare of animals. The one who played Winnetou, in the movie with the same name, was a very good friend of the Romanian bears. The movie reached the homes and hearts of billions of people worldwide. Gina and Sofia are 2 bears baptized by the famous actor, in November 2006 when Piere Brice visited the Sanctuary in Zarnesti. As he said at the time, he chose the names after the famous actresses Gina Lollobrigida and Sophia Loren. Gina and Sofia are now enjoying the 69 hectares enclosed forest of the largest bear sanctuary in Europe.
