Sterilization – the only solution

sacele   140709 Strilisation Sacele -024

In July, the Asociatia Milioane de Prieteni (Millions of Friends Association) launched a free sterilization campaign in collaboration with the Săcele municipality, where over 1,000 flyers were shared and hundreds of posters were put up. During the first week of the campaign alone, 34 people called the Săcele City Hall to make an appointment for their dog’s sterilization. The collaboration began in the spring, when City Hall representatives contacted us to find a long-term solution to reduce the number of stray dogs on the streets. The Mayor of Săcele understood that the only way to control the stray dog situation is to address its cause, namely the uncontrolled reproduction of dogs whose puppies end up as strays.
The campaign runs until the end of September. All owners of dogs and cats in Săcele who can’t afford to sterilize their pets in a private veterinary clinic will benefit from this free service at AMP’s Victory dog shelter. People need to make an appointment in advance by calling 0268. 471 202 or by signing up on the open lists at the Săcele City Hall.
Every year, AMP runs free sterilization campaigns in the surrounding localities of Brasov, including Cristian, Zarnesti, Sânpetru, Harman, Prejmer, and Tărlungeni. In Brasov, the stray dog problem is under control, but unwanted dogs are constantly brought from the cities around Brasov and abandoned, making the work of the Stupini Public Shelter and AMP’s shelter in Triaj more difficult.
This campaign supports citizens who are required by Law 258/2014 to register and sterilize their dogs beginning January 1st, 2015.
The campaign would not have been possible without the financial support of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation and our friends Bund gegen Missbrauch der Tiere and Love Underdogs.
