The bear, bored by the fox

Woody, a male fox, was a tormented soul at the Zoo in Neamţ where he lived in captivity with little water and food. When the AMP team heard about his plight in 2009, they immediately took action and brought him to live with bears in the Sanctuary. He was released in the first large enclosure where he did a great job of fooling its larger residents, who are lazy by nature. Each morning when breakfast arrives, Woody sneaks through the grass, waiting expectantly for the food to be thrown over the fence. Brave and incredibly sly, he’s not intimidated by the massive bears who are focused on a hearty breakfast. Woody acts in a split second. In a blink of an eye, he’s already stolen some of the bears’ food and has disappeared into his den to enjoy it.  Although foxes are usually shy animals, Woody is sociable and cosmopolitan. In the cool afternoons, when the bears are lazing around leisurely by the pool, he comes out to promenade in the glade of the first enclosure. His bushy tail rises bumptiously from the grass as he heads for the pool filled with spring water. His strategy of venturing among the lazy bears any time of day always works. Bored, the bears don’t pay much attention to Woody. They know that until now they’ve only been fooled by… people.
