Over 40 representatives of rescue and care centers and sanctuaries in Europe have participated in late April at the annual meeting of the EARS (European Aliance for Rescue Centers and Sanctuaries). The meeting was organized this year by the BÄRENWALD bear sanctuary in Müritz, Germany. Whether caring for parrots, monkeys, reptiles or bears, whether the country is called Germany or Bulgaria, the care centers representatives highlighted the lack of an adequate legislation that limits the trade with exotic animals, prohibits the circus with animals and facilitates the confiscation of illegally held animals. In order to create a new European legislation intended exclusively for rescue / care / rehabilitation centers, the EARS members are working to create a common definition and at a set of characteristics and standards, which the future European directives can base on.
The European community needs a special law for sanctuaries
