Visitor reception center at the sanctuary

Besides the animal welfare, the education for protecting and helping the bears is the most important mission of the “Libearty” Sanctuary in Zărnești. In order to change the mindset of people, it’s necessary for them to feel, see and hear the experience of a free bear in his natural environment.

Thus, the Sanctuary from Zărnești prepares to open its doors to the animal lovers and especially for children. The preparations started late last year, by beginning the work on the visitor reception center. This building has been designed as a small multimedia educational center, where tourists can watch Libearty documentaries about the bear rescue missions. These documentaries represent an important part of the experience received by visitors, allowing them to make the difference between the conditions the bears have lived in captivity and how they are living now, at the Sanctuary, and the bureaucratic struggle the association has to take in order to rescue these forces of nature from the traps laid by human greed. But until the video devices will be located, the tourists will need other facilities as well.

So, by the end of December, a wastewater treatment plant has been purchased and placed. Out of respect for the environment, AMP has chosen to filter the wastewater in compliance with the European standards, before this water would return to nature. The mechanical-biological plant will serve the toilets designed for visitors, of which at least one will be specially adapted to the needs of disabled people.
