In the continuous search to diversify the bears’ diet, we added yogurt with dry food to the November menu for a few days. This light combination is similar to milk and cereal and is a consistent source of nutrients that are badly needed as hibernation approaches. Known for its active cultures, yogurt is good for the digestion, while dry food contains cereal fibers, raw protein from meat, and fats. In addition, the dry food is fortified with various vitamins necessary for a balanced diet.
How our furry friends reacted to this new recipe, only their yogurt whiskers can tell. With little attention to manners, Mia and Monica left their spoons and bowls in their dens—they stuffed their noses right into the food, to the satisfaction of the sanctuary staff. Bon apetit!
