                                 LUCKY                                                                ANONYMUS

A German, with an English name, who’s a Romanian patriot. He is Lucky, a beautiful Shepherd Dog and winner of the grand prize from our November contest. Although he’s of German origin, he proudly wears the national insignia of Romania. The winning entry featured Lucky on a “podium” with two “fashionable” accessories: a ribbon and a flag, both tricolored. With lots of pictures and a story told in a unique way, Lucky told us that he deserves to proudly wear the Patriotic name, and we were convinced. The prizes: a Trixie harness lined with fleece for him, and two free invitations to the Libearty Sanctuary in Zarnesti for his human companions, who raised him in a purely patriotic spirit.

But Lucky isn’t the only winner! We decided to offer one more special prize for originality: not for his outfit, but for the patriotism shown in his poems. He forgot to mention his name, but we hope he won’t remain an anonymous poet.
Read Lucky’s „letter,” and the poem of our anonymous patriot, below.

“It’s a cold morning on December 1st. The sunshine is starting to mildly warm up and brighten my yard, predicting the beginning of a feast day. As on any day of celebration, I dressed up with the tricolor and started walking and showing my neighbors the importance of the 1st of December. They looked at me in confusion, so I explained to them the meaning of this day and how proud I am to be born in Romania. My other “compatriots” noticed how good I looked (and felt!), so they adopted the same holiday outfit. I thought you would like to see some pictures.”
Signed, Lucky

I have not a tricolour flag,
But I hope with my stature I brag,
Obedience and respect to demand,
At how tall and straight I stand,
When the anthem is sung by the band,
For this great country of ours.

You dogs from all over, come
United we will be as one.
This human holiday we’ll amend
Into a happy dog’s day in the end.

We hope they’ll forgive us our flaws,
And spare us from death’s claws!
Please, dear God, us, help and shield,
That this dream may be fulfilled.
