Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and many other occasions that people chose to celebrate love. But there is an World Animal Day which is celebrated, unfortunately, by a small number of people.
In 1931, Heinrich Zimmermann’s proposal (a German writer and publisher of the magazine Mensch und Hund/Man and Dog) to make 4 October World Animal Day was adopted as a resolution at the congress of the International Animal Protection in Florence (Italy). The event was scheduled for 4 October, to align with the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology.
Animals share with us the same vital space, are co-tenants of our planet and need love and compassion, but most of all they need our protection.
Many of us took an animal in our families and souls. But today, The Millions of Friends Association invite you to send your good thoughts to these creatures. Animals that populate the forests, seas, oceans, the birds and insects, the animals in farms that are sacrificed to feed us, the tortured animals in circuses and labs, all need our protection.
We can change the fate of an animal, with a simple gesture, every day. All we need to do is not being indifferent to the sufferings of any living creature.
Compassion is a force, not a weakness! “The assumption that animals are without rights and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance is a positively outrageous example of Western cruelity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality.” (Arthur Schopenhauer, The Basis of Morality)
