The first time that World Animal Day (October 4th) was celebrated in Brasov by the “Millions of Friends” Association, was welcomed with enthusiasm and much participation from the public. At the public shelter in Stupini, 10 volunteers have built kennels for the stray dogs. The event was called ” First home for dogs”, and attracted also companies willing to get involved in solving a major social problem – the stray dogs. Three dog kennels were donated by the sponsor of this event, Praktiker store Brasov, and one of them became immediately a warm home for seven puppies and their mother. Over 50 volunteers offered moments of freedom for the dogs by walking them in the orchard of the shelter. „The public shelter in Stupini has over 250 dogs and is lacking of free space . By this event, AMP has created at least 15 new places in the shelter”, said Cristina Lapis, AMP president.
At the ”Libearty” sanctuary in Zărnești, a special pilgrimage was held on Sunday and it was dedicated to animals – probably the first of this kind in Romania. The saint Serafim of Sarov chapel hosted a blessing service where special prayers were spoken to the “celebrated ones”.
”Animals need our protection because God placed the man on Earth as master of creation, but unfortunately everyone can see how careless the man is with the Creation. Several species disappear, and animals are often killed and hurt. We understand the level of a society by how they treat the most vulnerable creatures –animals are also vulnerable”, said Nicolae Mosoiu the priest. About 50 animal lovers and their dogs, listened to the Father’s message and received His blessings. AMP wants to turn these events into an annual tradition.
