Betsy is the first bear from the “Libearty" sanctuary, brought from overseas, Texas. She was a circus artist, and the difficult years of torment that she spent in the arena, left deep wounds on her. She came to us in mid-2010, at the age of 24.
She crossed the ocean with a ship transporting a traveling circus in Europe. After the circus closed, she "lived" another nine years on a farm, where she was kept in a dirty and extremely small hen coop.
Her food consisted mostly of leftovers from a fast food restaurant, and that caused her severe stomach problems. Before she arrived to Zarnesti, Betsy suffered several surgeries at her teeth that got destroyed in over 20 years of captivity. At the request of SPCA Houston, she took a flight home, to Romania.
