Project Description

Lizzie has been called Pamela for nearly 30 years. During this time, she lived at a zoo in Oradea, in a small, dark and miserable cage. Her cubs, mature bears already, had begun to fight with her. For fear of being seriously injured, the caretakers moved her from the enclosure where she spent most of her life. As the poor bear was suffering because of the lack of space, the manager of the zoo decided to ask for our help. Thus, the granny-bear from the Oradea zoo arrived to the Libearty Sanctuary.

Lizzie Daly, a biologist and BBC collaborator, who also took part to Lizzie’s rescue mission, made a documentary on the subject. We chose to re-name Pamela with the name of the journalist, Lizzie. A new name, a new life – finally in freedom!
