Project Description

Benny came to the sanctuary with his sister Alla. Both were 27 years old when they arrived at the sanctuary. All these years they had to live with the miserable conditions at the same zoo where they lived in a cage next to two other bears called Baby and Ben.

In July 2007 they all came to the sanctuary, Alla was released in the big enclosure and Benny joined Max, the blind bear, in a smaller enclosure. Benny was severely affected by the 27 years of captivity and looked much older than his sister. His last 3 years have been the best years of his life. He enjoyed the forest and wonderful company of Max. In a November night in 2010, at age 30 years, Benny fell asleep and did not wake up again.

He was the first bear in the Sanctuary who left forever.
