One of the most important figures in Romanian radio, Marius Vintila, spent a Saturday at the sanctuary last month. Marius has seen many things in his life: he’s interviewed the members of Led Zepelin, he’s met movie stars on the red carpet at the Oscar Awards, he’s made documentaries about the environment and animals—but the sanctuary in Zarnesti left him speechless. Recently, he toured Libearty with some friends and was deeply moved by the bears’ remarkable stories. He was also impressed by the great living conditions the sanctuary residents now enjoy. Other highlights of his visit were meeting one of our furry friends in the third enclosure observatory and seeing the natural dens of the second enclosure.
Marius Vintila was born in Brasov, and he’s an icon of the free radio movement. His voice has been broadcast over the airwaves since the early 90s, just after the revolution. Along with his brother George, Marius is one of the most popular figures in Romanian radio. He’s played an especially important role in environment protection, promoting various eco campaigns over the years.
When he came to Libearty, Marius was already aware of the importance of the media in the fight to save the captive bears of Romania. Before leaving the sanctuary, he promised to help us rescue the last nine captive bears from an illegal farm in Arad and the Straja mountain resort in Hunedoara County.
