Miracles happen not only in hospitals, but also in dog-shelters. One of the dogs from the Victory shelter has had a recovery that few thought would be possible. Picuț was brought to us after being severely beaten by his owner from Prejmer, near Brașov. So severely beaten that the dog’s rear legs became paralysed. And all this because Picuț tried to attack his owner’s hens!
Abandoned in a ditch
However, after crippling his dog for a trivial reason, the person who did this didn’t care about the dog’s life. On the contrary! He threw him into a ditch by the roadside and left him there to die in pain. The dog laid there for 3 days. A kind-hearted woman saw him and fed him. When she realised how severely injured he was, she called AMP. After initially believing the dog had been hit by a car, the woman heard his sad story from the man’s neighbours.
After 3 months, good news!
Picuț arrived at Victory with minimal chances of recovery. After surgery, treatment and much exercise, with an iron will and helped by the shelter staff, the dog is now walking again. It’s true that he tires quickly and he needs frequent rests, but when he goes out for a walk he makes a great effort to behave like a normal dog without medical problems. ”He needed total rest and I treated him with steroids, medication for nerve stimulation, anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers, but recovery usually takes longer in such cases”, says the AMP doctor, Ciprian Cocianu.
The AMP team would like to thank his distance adopters who helped us offer him the right treatment, so the story has a happy ending. Picuț’s physical disability is still evident and he still needs anti-inflammatory drugs and analgesics, but we all hope that one day he will be able to live without them and eventually find a loving family.
