The Trekkers returned to the Sanctuary after a verry long walk.
Like each year, in September the Sanctuary receives the visit of some „mountaineer” guests. 12 travelers who have enrolled in the trekking program of WSPA (the World Society of the Protection of Animals) halted in the Sanctuary after a long walk by the most beautiful mountains in Romania. The mountaineers left to cross the Bucegi Mountains, starting from Sinaia, from the 1400 quota, through the Cu Dor Peak, the Chalet Bolboci, Peștera, Piatra Arsă and finished with the height of the Omu peak. “They are people with all kind of training. Some of them have never climbed a mountain, others have climbed all the mountains in the world. Some of them make this tracking only for this route, for the sake of these bears. They do not seek for hiking performances, it doesn’t matter who arrives to the destination first. They love to walk together, to talk about their pets and other animals. They are big hearted people” says Costin Voinescu, the guide who has guided them through the mountains. The english people were delighted.
„The Carpathian Mountains are extraordinary! The woods are thick and beautiful with plenty of vegetation. I will definetly come back one day!”, says Jeniffer Williams, the mountain guide of Discover Travel.
The Sanctuary is amazing, I love it!
After four days in the mountins, the 12 turists from UK came to visit the Libearty Bear Sanctuary from Zărneşti.
„The Sanctuary is amazing, I love it! It’s a safe and healthy environment for the bears wo don’t have to suffer anymore. I have seen that the bears have the possibility to do whatever they want and whatever is possible in their natural environment. They are not forced to do anything. Everytime they come to see us at the fence, we know they do so because they want to, not because they have to”, says Jeniffer Williams, the mountain guide of Discover Travel.
Romania means Libearty!
The most faithful client of this tracking program is Colin Sharp. „The mountain heights were dizzying, you are feeling like being on the world’s roof. You seek a sense of freedom, and if you are lucky you can also see wild animals.” says Colin. For him, Romania means Libearty. „This is my fourth visit in Romania with this trekking program. I love hiking as much as I love watching the bears from the Sanctuary. I’m in this program because it is for a very noble cause and beside this it is very healthy. Each time I come I notice that the Sanctuary is modernized, improved. Each time I see changes from good to verry good. Wright now there is another enclosure building for other bears and I can hardly wait to come back next year to see it populated with bears”, confesses Colin. This man fell in love for this Sanctuary and he says he’s thiking about mooving in Romania for working in the Sactuary.
What is humanitarian trekking?
With the support of the Discover Travel Agency – specialized operators on charity tourism, WSPA oganizez every year a trekking trip to the Bucegi Mountains. This trip is a humanitarian one because the hikers are not paying only the trip and the accommodation costs but they also have to ensure a minimum donation collection, which are then transferred to the “Millions of Friends” Association. These donations are used then to buy food for the bears and to cover up some administation costs of the Sanctuary.
