Ionică’s story is short, but sad. There is not too much to say about spending half a lifetime behind bars in a Zoo in Călăraşi. There is always the same story each day: the same food (if there is any), the same bars and dirty water, the same air and flashlights of the photo-cameras, nothing new happening for years. Maybe some new cellmates, the accommodation period with them and then again everything gets back to “normal”. Some long, boring and depressive years for a 23 years old bear. In August 2006 his detention ended and his life changed. At the Libearty Sanctuary Ionică became another bear. Younger, happier and more beautiful than he has ever been.

In the summer of 2019 Ionică passed away in peace.
